By Ella Ramsden, Buying and Design Administrative Assistant.
This week I officially joined the team at Studio 104, as a recent graduate I am enjoying the chance to become involved with such a creative company.
This year has been such a busy year for me, working through the final year of my Retail buying course, while simultaneously working on a corporate competition for which I was shortlisted to present a capsule collection for work wear. This opportunity lead me to the Professional Clothing Awards, where none other than Jane and her team accepted several awards. I set out to meet as many people in the industry as possible, which lead me to contact Jane regarding any opportunities she might have. I graduated from De Montfort University earlier this year with a grade that I’m so proud of.
Since joining the team at Studio 104 I have immersed myself in the role and I enjoy exploring the capital on my trips to suppliers and factories. My role involves everything from office admin, to designing elements in our collections. I am responsible for sourcing fabrics and trims, quality assuring garments and liaising with our factories and suppliers to ensure we create the best possible quality in our uniforms. Researching products and trims is a great way to stay aware of what is happening in the market, and for future projects keeping an eye on the trends through trend prediction packages.
Most recently I received a call from the sponsors of The Professional Clothing awards, congratulating me on my new job. They have also invited me to present the student award at next year’s event. I have found it really interesting how people view the work wear industry, and I think it is great that companies are making an effort to inspire and involve students in such a vibrant and diverse industry.
