How the fashion weeks are inspiring uniform

That’s it! With the end of Miu Miu’s Autumn Winter 15/16 presentation yesterday, Fashion month is over for another season. We may miss the excitement of yet another show, but we have enough inspiration to feed our hungry designers!

From New York to Paris, this seasons fashion weeks bring out the best in street fashion with Phil Oh and Bill Cunningham always the first to show the best of how people interpret the catwalk looks. But that’s another blog!

Studio 104’s design team are about to provide you with the definitive collection of trends which will be inspiring uniform globally. We always keep our clients in mind when looking for inspiration, which includes historical institutions like The Savoy & The Dorchester but also our young and vibrant hotels including Mondrian London & St Martin’s Lane.

The new shirts

Shirting is a staple to most people’s wardrobes, and of course most uniforms include a great fitting shirt. We are always looking for ways to add interest to a shirt, whether its the darts to adjust the fit, or its the button placket & collar. Here’s what the design elite did to update the good old shirt…

Its hard to ignore the revolution that seems to be happening in sleeves. They are becoming sculptural, something that is moving away from its functional roots. Adding volume into a sleeve will update the silhouette and add a very interesting element to a jacket or dress!

We are mourning the Lapel.

It seems the age of the lapel is coming to an end, at least the traditional lapel -which has always been the staple of tailoring. Womenswear tailoring is constantly evolving, and small design features can completely update a jacket or suit.

Who can ignore Giorgio’s trousers?

Giorgio Armani’s collection was something to behold, and we especially loved his focus on the humble trouser.

Belts add the finishing touch. From barely there ropes, to contrasting colours, belts seem to be a beautiful way to add a statement to a uniform. The belt could be customised like Gucci’s G belt, or match a print like Giorgio Armani’s fabric belt. The options are endless for adding a finishing touch to a beautiful uniform.

Fur Patches! After visiting the London Textile Forum show last week, our buying team found a wonderful range of faux furs that feel and look beautiful- in every colour you could imagine! So when we started noticing fur on the runways, we though it would be a fun addition to a uniform!

Tailored jackets are definitely evolving! Here are our design team’s favourite tailored jackets. We love how adventurous tailoring has become, its quite clear Alexander McQueen’s legacy is inspiring designers around the globe.

This month of shows has definitely left us feeling inspired to create some unique and showstopping uniforms! It is exciting to see how these global designers are still pushing boundaries, but also allowing up and coming designers to present on this amazing global platform.
